Full Year Programs & Class Schedule

The Deane School of Dance offers superior instruction for our littlest students beginning ages 3 all the way to adult. We teach the disciplines of ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, modern (summer intensive) and contemporary.

PROGRAMS

Pre-School dance classes (3 1/2 – 5 years)
  • Pre-ballet, simple acrobatics, songs, creative movement,  games, and tap for coordination and rhythm.

Beginners basic dance classes – ballet, jazz and tap.
  • Ballet classes: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced professional.
  • Beginner level–  includes basic positions, proper ballet technique and movements, combinations which develop coordination and rhythm in the younger dancer. (Ages 6 to 9 years*)
  • Intermediate level– includes more advanced movements and combinations than beginner level, while developing their sense of music as it relates to the dance. Upper intermediate also includes beginnings of pointe work and strength exercises. Individual student’s expertise is also a factor in assigning class levels. (Ages 10 to 14 years*)
  • Advanced level– includes more advanced movements and technique than intermediate level. Regular pointe classes are given. (Ages 14 to 18 years*)

Jazz: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced; building on the above ballet descriptions also includes lyrical & contemporary dance styles

Tap: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
  • Tap dancing uses sounds made by taps on ones shoes to create rhythms which enhance the body’s dance moves. The Deane School teaches Broadway tap and rhythm (jazz/hip hop) tap. Tap dancing develops a student’s sense of rhythm and style and also enhances the function of the brain by connecting additional neurons, which helps to extend and maintain high brain functioning now and throughout a student’s life.
  • Pre-school and Kindergarten level tap– Classes focus on basic rhythms, while relating them to various types of music. The percussive sounds made by the taps highlight the rhythms that are in the simple tap dance moves presented. (Ages 3 to 6 years*)
  • Beginner level tap – This level includes basic tap steps and combinations, which coordinate with the variety of music used. (Ages 7- 10 years*)
  • Intermediate level tap – This level builds on the basic beginner moves and adds more intricate moves and combinations, such as time steps, as the student gets older. (Ages 10 – 13 years*)
  • Advanced level tap – This level continues to focus on more time steps and combinations, as well as more intricate rhythms. It also includes both rhythm tap and Broadway style tap choreography. (Ages 14 – 18 years*)

Full Dance Season:

Registration begins in April for the following season of dance. A dance season is September through May. The first half of the season we teach dancing – technique and the dance vocabulary. Only after we have laid a strong dance foundation do we begin working on recital pieces, typically in February. The season culminates with the Spring Recital where students take to the stage debuting their newest moves and the faculty reveal their artistry through their choreography. It’s our celebration of dance, performance, and passion for creative movement.
